Comments:

My working days were spent in education. I worked at all levels, from pre school to adult education. Some of the time was spent teaching, but the majority of the time was spent in counseling.
My family life was and is very important to me. I married at 20 to my soul mate, a middle school principal, and we raised four wonderful boys. They've all married and blessed me with 14 fantastic grandchildren.
In 1970, we left Illinois and moved to Michigan, where I still reside. All of my children and grandchildren live in Michigan, so I get to see them often.
My first grandson was born with defective kidneys and spent his short years in and out of hospitals. He had two kidney transplants which failed and his little body finally gave out when he was 11 years old. I still miss him.
Thank goodness, the other grandchildren are all healthy. The oldest one will be 20 years old in October and the youngest one will be 10 years old in October.
Over the years I have been involved in many volunteer activities. I was part of a group that started a community theatre in my town and was in the first play. The theater group is still going strong, although I no longer participate.
I was also involved in the council for the prevention of child abuse. At different times, I served as the president and a board member.
There was another group in town that was wanting to start a mentoring program for kids and I helped to get this program started and helped run it for a number of years. This program is running well and I am proud of my involvement.
I am presently the county coordinator for Project Linus, a national group which provides blankets to children undergoing any kind of trauma. This activity is very rewarding to me.
In 2002, I retired from education and my husband and I started spending winters in Alamo, Texas, a town near the Mexican border in what is referred to as the Rio Grande Valley. I love it there and love the influence of the Mexican culture. Every year we started spending a little more time there until now it's 6 months in Michigan and 6 months in Texas. This year, I sold my house in Michigan and moved in with my youngest son. So far, it's been working well.
I enjoy all kinds of crafts and sewing. I have taken some jewelry making classes and am trying to learn more about that. I love growing flowers, but I'm not sure I love the work of them anymore. I recently bought a hammered dulcimer and am struggling to learn to play it. It's a pretty sounding instrument when one plays it well. I hope I get better.
In January 2010, my best friend and husband died of a massive heart attack. I am still recovering.

School Story:

I have lots of good memories of Kewanee High School. I enjoyed my classes and felt I received a superios education there.
